As ophthalmologists, we diagnose and treat many eye diseases, perform surgery and advise on the management and care of all eye health issues.

Medical vs Routine Eye Examinations
Office Visits with an ophthalmologist or other eye care provider is categorized as either Routine or Medical.  The terminology does reflect the steps it takes to perform a comprehensive eye exam, or the type of doctor who performs the exam. A comprehensive "Routine" vision exam often contains the same elements as a comprehensive "Medical" eye exam.

The type of eye exam you have is determined by the reason for your visit or your chief complaint, as well as your diagnosis. Routine vision exams usually produce final diagnoses such as nearsightedness or astigmatism, while medical eye exams produce diagnoses such as "conjunctivitis." Most insurance companies focus on the reason for your visit.

Cataract Surgery
As the eyes age, the lens often becomes cloudy, forming a cataract. This condition is very common and interferes with many daily activities. Driving, cooking and even climbing stairs can become dangerous. Cataract surgery is an out-patient procedure. Your ophthalmologist removes the clouded lens, replacing it with an artificial lens. This procedure makes a huge difference in patients’ lives.

Glaucoma Treatment
Regular glaucoma testing is important because catching the eye disease early helps prevent or slow vision loss. The goal of glaucoma care is to lower and monitor the intraocular pressures and keep it under control. Various modalities are available to treat glaucoma include eye drops, laser treatments and surgical procedures.

Diabetic Eye Disease Management
We realize that our patients with diabetes face their own special set of eye health issues. These include increased risk for cataracts and glaucoma as well as diabetic retinopathy, a condition in which the blood vessels in the retina are damaged, drastically reducing vision and often leading to blindness. If caught in the early stages, treatment and follow-up care for diabetic retinopathy go a long way in preserving your vision. Because of this, we recommend more frequent eye exams for our diabetic patients.

Treatment for Corneal Disorders
Your eye is protected by a clear outer layer called the cornea. It helps keep you safe from germs and dirt which can harm your eye’s delicate structure. However, the cornea can easily become damaged through infection, injury or various diseases.

Treatment for Vitreoretinal Disorders
In the back of your eye, the retina and vitreous can be affected by macular degeneration, macular holes, retinal tears or detachments, floaters, flashing lights and other eye conditions.

Dry Eye Treatment
Many people’s eyes produce insufficient lubrication, leaving them feeling dry and uncomfortable. If your eyes burn or sting, come see us so we can help you feel more comfortable. Our ophthalmologists can identify the causes of your dry eye and make a treatment plan to ease the condition. This could include eye drops and lifestyle changes.
